Evans returns to Australia for Supercars enduro season

After his first taste of Supercars Championship racing in 2022, Evans returns to Australia to team up with Jack Smith and codrive for the BJR/SCT Racing Team in the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 endurance events.

While 2022 saw codrivers only required for the 161-lap race at Mt Panorama, Supercars has reinstated the Sandown 500 this season, giving Evans the opportunity to drive in two Championship events.

“I’m thrilled to be racing with Jack and the SCT Racing team again this year,” said Evans. “After experiencing Supercars endurance racing for the first last year, I’m confident of a good showing, and my goal is to be competitive and keep the car straight.”

Evans says his biggest challenge will be learning a new car after the introduction of the Gen3 Supercar at the beginning of the 2023 season.

“I have a shorter introduction with the car than last year, but I’m hopeful the knowledge the team have gained and processes they have already put in place will aid and help the steep learning curve I have ahead

“While our test day at Winton had a few hiccups due to wet weather, it was good to re-join Jack and the team and sample my first laps in the Gen3 Camaro. It’s a very different concept from what I’m used to driving; however, there are some similar traits that carry over, which is positive.

“It was really beneficial to run through the general endurance race processes before we head to Sandown. I felt like I came to grips with the car relatively quickly, which makes me pumped for the coming events.”

While Evans has not raced in a Supercar at Sandown Raceway, he has plenty of experience racing at the circuit in other categories.

“I like the Sandown track, and I’ve had success at each outing there, albeit all in a Porsche. However, it’s a short track, margins are close, and the weather is always unpredictable, so anything can happen.

“But I’m really excited by the return of the Sandown 500. It’s a track I enjoy and an event I think everyone has missed. Getting race mileage in the Gen3 car will be super beneficial, and it will give me a big boost leading into the Bathurst 1000,” said Evans.

GT Masters – German GT3 Championship Update

It’s been a solid start to the GT Masters – German GT3 season for Evans, sitting 3rd overall after the first three rounds of racing.

Evans is teamed up with previous GT Masters race winner and junior champion Tim Zimmerman in this category and is racing in the Porsche 922 GT3R under the Huber Racing banner.

Jaxon Evans

“It’s been a year of racing to date. We won our first race at Hockenheim, which was the perfect way to open a championship charge. We are three rounds into the Championship and currently sit 3rd in the standings, just seven points behind the leader, so there’s still a chance we could claim the Championship.

“I have a good relationship with Tim, and we work together well to try and extract the most from one another. Car speed has been pretty strong at each outing, and I’m happy with our performances as a team so far. We hope to continue our success in the second half of the season.”

ISMA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Update (Endurance Cup)

The ISMA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has been a little more challenging for Evans this season, but one he has still enjoyed.

He’s competing under Kelly Moss by Riley Racing Team and codriving with Kay Van Berlo and Alan Metni in the Porsche 992 GT3R.

Jaxon Evans:

“The ISMA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is one I’ve always wanted to be involved in. This year, I’ve competed in the Endurance Cup (Daytona 24hr, Sebring 12hr, Watkins 6hr, and Petit Le Mans 10-hour), and it’s a super competitive and exciting series. It’s multiclass racing on some of the most iconic tracks in the US, which has been an amazing experience.

“Unfortunately, the balance of performance (BOP) has not been super kind across the events, but with the Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta coming up in October, which will be my last race for the season, I’m hoping to have a positive finish to the season.”
